Subject
The Person and Ministry of Jesus in All the Books of the Bible
Description

The story of Hosea and his wife Gomer sounds like an episode of the Jerry Springer show.

The name Hosea is related to Joshua or Yeshua, which means "salvation." In fact, the parallels between Hosea and the ministry of Jesus are many...

  • The childhood of Jesus the refugee.
  • The royalty of Jesus the King.
  • The cross of Jesus the redeemer.
  • The resurrection of Jesus the victor.
  • The blessings of Jesus the Messiah.

You see, once we are secure inside God's unconditional love, we'll start cutting people a lot of slack. We won't be as angry as we've been. We'll be more patient. We'll be more forgiving. We'll be more merciful. We'll give others grace. BUT WE CANNOT GIVE TO OTHERS WHAT WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED.

When we feel "empty" and not able to show or give love to others, how do we think God wants us to "refuel?"

  • Develop an attitude of gratitude.
  • Stop comparing ourselves to others.
  • Serve others.
  • Practice being still.
  • Release the expectations others have of us.

Hosea loved Gomer despite her unfaithfulness; God loved Israel despite her unfaithfulness, and God loves us despite our unfaithfulness.

The truth is, I can identify with Gomer. Why? Because I am more sinful than I will ever imagine yet more loved than I ever dreamed of...and that is why we should all remember Hosea, for all he reveals of the person and work of the Lord Jesus.
